Artisan, Brad Greenwoods latest furniture composition is a creation inspired by the massive and wild grizzly bear. He chose this animal as his subject because he has always viewed this handsome creature as a symbol of the wilderness.
Using a figured walnut slab left in its natural form for the top of the sideboard, and natural edged walnut for the backsplash, Brad envisioned a detailed carving of a brown bear seemingly surrounded by a background of mountain silhouettes. The free form edges flow gracefully atop a cupboard rich with detail and Old World craftsmanship. Abounding in precision hand-cut exposed joinery and interesting combinations of Northern California hard woods, this furniture piece is truly a work of art.
In addition to the obvious caliber of the Brown Bear Sideboard, it humbly hides a pop-out key holder and two hidden drawers. The sycamore bowl hand carved from a single block of wood rests below the drawers. It can be used in its place, or function elsewhere.
Brad Greenwoods furniture typically includes hand made mechanisms and drawer pulls, slightly raised and faceted bow tie joints cleverly placed along fissures, "wormy" edges, and satiny finishes. The artist carefully chooses each piece of wood, aligning grain patterns on multiple drawer fronts from one single slab of wood. His concept of multiple woods, carved bowls, intricate carvings, and quaint design, has made him a leader in his field.
Eloquent to gaze upon, yet unpretentious to the eye, Brad Greenwood furniture makes a statement. Its charm is all at once heartwarming - its uses are many - and its place in time is endless.
